You probably know by now that Spook Studio is the home of happy startups. We’re a product innovation studio based by the sea, helping entrepreneurs turn their ideas into viable digital products people love. We’ve been around for about 9 years and we love what we do :)
Feast your eyes on our cheesy team photo, n’aww.
We have a nice little studio based in the heart of the North Laine, directly behind the Lick crew (we wrote a little something about them last week) and there’s a good reason why we’re based here as opposed to the big smoke.
We’re a skip and a hop away from Brighton seafront where we’re surrounded by a mix of emerging startups and fully fledged businesses, some that’s been around for years, some just weeks. (If we’re ever out of the office, you’ll catch us playing remote control car races on the promenade.)
The North Laine is a place where creativity is everywhere you turn. Yep, even when it’s rainy. Digital nomads, tech startups and bricks and mortar businesses flock to the cultural streets for that business-by-the-sea appeal and we’re one of ‘em. It’s vibrancy, culture and close-knit network of entrepreneurs is what attracted our founders Carlos & Laurence to set up the business here and we’ve noticed steadily that it’s the buzz in the area, the freedom everyone has, the conscious approach to business everyone takes that’s attracted so many startups to the area.
At Spook Studio we’re currently redesigning and developing the North Laine Traders site. A place to show the world a peek into the many small shops and independent traders in the area, and we feel pretty lucky to be working with such diverse talent on our doorstep.
There are so many businesses born with focus around a higher purpose not just profits, created by people aspiring to live happier lives, supporting the local economy – not just setting up business to line their own pockets. To name a few:
Lick – a frozen yogurt café born from two men’s passion for bringing healthy, fat free goodness to the world. They’re our neighbours and they’re awesome. They give us free fro-yo, t-shirts & tote bags.
Guitar Amp & Keyboard (or GAK) are renowned in Brighton for their unmissable yellow buildings selling exactly what it says on the tin – these guys have been around ever since I can remember and apparently turnover millions in online sales across the UK, yet they’re such a modest lot that started off small setting up the store to work closely with the passionate musical community in Brighton.
The Skiff is an awesome coworking space for digital businesses, with a rustic community vibe as soon as you walk through the door. They work hard to create a collaborative workspace for freelancers to network and build businesses.
There’s tons more, Digicave, Giant PR, Utility, Jump the Gun, Dirty Harrys, all a mix of digital and creative businesses contributing towards the North Laine’s strong community of entrepreneurs… and we’re here to help you be part of that :)
