Be a happiness activist!

It’s International Day of Happiness today and for the third year running the Happy Startup School are celebrating with our usual happy foolery here in Brighton. The theme this year is Connecting People, something we’re always passionate about here at Happy HQ so this morning we welcomed Brighton startups, creatives, neighbours and friends to our office for one of our monthly Lean Coffee mornings (with happy surprises).

Happy home schooler
Something for everyone at Happy HQ this morning:

  • An impromptu Happy light installation from our friends at Harvey & John
  • Free money to spend making someone’s day
  • Free happy t-shirts
  • Goodie bags
  • Free enrolment for 3 lucky people on our Home School
  • a heap of knowledge shared
  • a dedicated chalkboard to share what makes us really happy
  • …and the world’s cutest puppy

We’ve all come away with infectious positivity, new knowledge, new friends and an obsession with Jake the Japanese Spitz – isn’t he adorable?

happy envelopes

We kicked off the morning giving everyone a wax sealed envelope containing happy prizes.

5 envelopes had £5 notes inside encouraging people to pay it forward, to spend it wisely making someone’s day. One lucky winner Molly (top picture) said she was using her £5 to buy a blanket for a local Brighton homeless man she sees on her walk to work everyday.

3 contained golden tickets with a free spot on our Home School course starting in early May. It’ll be awesome to see the lucky winners connect with such an awesome community we’re building and we’re delighted to be able to help people make the changes they want in their lives, and become their own boss.

10 had coupons for free happy t-shirts and goodie bags which we encouraged people to either hold onto or give away to somebody to make their day. And finally…

We all took a pledge. The rest of the envelopes contained a blank cheque where we pledged to do something for somebody we know and take the first step towards making it happen, today.

Happiness is priceless, and offering your time or knowledge can be more valuable than giving possessions. Our founder Laurence pledged to mentor an entrepreneur he knows in the early stages of starting his own business so they can get the best start they need. He’s making the first step right now, emailing his friend to pencil in the call.

Why don’t you write your own happy cheque right now. Save it, print it off and pledge to do something for somebody that needs it most.
